In the mid 80’s, the biggest concern for high-net-worth individuals was the 50% tax bracket. This created the opportunity to show investors how to own a Show Horse, which competed for money, and provided them the self-satisfaction of owning a horse that would take them to the winner’s circle. In order to meet the demands of this desire; I was responsible for the Start-up, management, recruiting, training and supervision of managers and staffing, new-product research & development, retail, agriculture, livestock, tax-shelter, relationship development, and new client procurement. Within 2 years of inception, Wall Street Farms dominated the western pleasure quarter horse industry and had sold over $4,000,000 of equestrian tax shelters.
The Quarter Horse Division which kept 40 to 60 show-horses, show-horse prospects, and broodmares in inventory for sale. It had a Division Manager, plus seven full time employees who trained and showed horses.
The Horse Supply Division was the industries first discount catalog sales company. We offered over 6,000 items including a full line of saddles, leather accessories and other farm supplies. It had a Division Manager, plus three full-time employees and advertised nationally and procured customers in every state.
The Pecan Orchard Division had a Division Manager, plus four full time and eight part-time employees who operated a 457 acre pecan orchard located on a 3,200 acre hay ranch. Their duties included chemical insect and disease control, grafting, pruning, harvesting, and general orchard management, in addition to pasture improvement and a square-bale hay operation.
